in class, we broke up into groups to jigsaw the information from this document, then we wrote a line or two to help us identify some of the silicone feces that we have access to in class. :)
Here is the outline for the project options - you only need to choose one, though you can complete both if you wish! Proposals should be discussed with Mrs. Comte before you start to get permissions or make definite plans! These projects should be completed before May long weekend, but sooner is better than later.
Even though it's not really chemistry related, the solar eclipse on April 8th will be super scientifically cool.
The Manitoba Museum has a live feed set up and some neat ideas for viewing: 2024 Solar Eclipse Information - Manitoba Museum The website below gives some great info about where in the world you will be able to see the total eclipse, and makes some comparisons with the 2017 eclipse as well. Check it out :) 2024 Total Eclipse (nasa.gov) Sadly, it is too warm for us to go ice fishing as planned, so we are looking at an open water trip in May instead. We will complete a fish project over the next few weeks, so we can learn more about the species we will possibly encounter and what the regulations are for fishing in Manitoba.
Thank you Mother Nature - we have snow! Monday we shovelled a large pile - as tall and wide as our tallest classmate. Wednesday we are going to add sticks (12 inches long) to help measure all thickness, and start to dig out the interior of the bank. We will also start on a second pile if nature allows. Thursday and Friday we will finish up our quinzees and work on our fire-building techniques (matches first, and then an alternate method second/ third).
If we had some help from mother nature, we would be busy building quinzees and snow shelters, but until then we will look at other shelters and ways to stay warm. We'll start with fire building methods- looking at ways to start a fire, types of fuel needed for fire starting, and also different structures for fire building. The following notes and videos will be used for gathering information about fire building this week and next. 13 Ways to Start a Fire (No Matches or Lighter) - Fire Starting Techniques.
