EXERCISE SCIENCE 40S
This course is designed to provide students with an in-depth study into the science of human performance. The human body’s physiological systems are a complex interconnected framework between the brain and nervous system.
The purpose of this course is to give students a picture of how those physiological systems work together to maximise human performance. Students will use their knowledge of various aspects of exercise science such as biomechanics, kinesiology, human anatomy, fitness testing, injury treatment and prevention, and nutrition to develop a greater understanding of how the interaction between the brain and nervous system leads to mastery in high performance activities
This course will balance both textbook work and physical training in the gym. Each week we will meet in the gym 2-3 times along with 1-2 days of classwork. While we are in the gym, you will have the opportunity to use the weight room, cardio machines and equipment within the gym itself. Classwork will cover Intro to Kinesiology content.

about my expectations:
In order to create an environment that is the best possible learning environment for ALL students, the following are expected from all students:
- Be respectful to me, to yourself, and to other students in your words, actions, and attitudes.
- Be diligent by putting in your best effort into your class
- Be prepared by completing the homework, bringing supplies to class, and being present in class.
- Be engaged in the classroom activities.
- Be pro-active to ask questions and seek out help.
materials:
- Please bring a binder and with loose-leaf and a pen/pencil to every in-class lesson.
- When we meet in the gym, appropriate gear and footwear must be used. You will not be allowed to participate otherwise.
classroom expectations:
- Attendance: Students are expected to attend class regularly and on time. You are expected to be in your desk and ready to work. There will be no closing of books early or standing by the door waiting for the bell. Lack of attendance or continuous tardiness may result in withdrawal from the course.
- On days we are in the gym, it is expected that you are ready to go within 5 minutes of the class starting.
- Missing Work: Coursework must be handed in by the due date communicated in class. Coursework handed in late may not be accepted. No late coursework will be accepted once that task has been marked and returned to the class.
- Absences: If you miss part or all of class, you are completely responsible for what you missed. I will assume you had been in class even if you weren’t. There will not be any time in class to help you catch up on what you missed. If you have missed a class for any reason, it is your responsibility to find out what you have missed from a fellow classmate. Obtain missed material from the side of the room or photocopy it from a classmate. I am available to help you catch up on missed material most lunch hours.
- Marks: You are expected to monitor your own marks by regularly logging on the Powerschool and tracking your progress.
- Breaks: You DO NOT have to ask to go to the washroom or get a drink. Please use your own discretion as to an appropriate time to leave the classroom. If leaving the classroom becomes an issue, this rule will change.
- Personal Mobile Devices: Cell phones and other personal mobile devices (e.g. tablets, laptop computers) are not to be seen or used during class time unless instructed or given permission for an approved purpose. They should be on silent or off and stored away in your bag. Do not take pictures of classroom materials without permission. Your devices distract your learning. I will not allow you to be distracted.
- Academic Honesty: Your integrity is the most important aspect of your character. There are many pressures (such as the fear of a poor grade, the feeling of failure, and the expectation to perform) that tempt us to take shortcuts and compromise our integrity.
